As a responsible citizen, we also have the responsibility to respect the principle of cultural diversity. Most of the different perspectives that exist with global issues are often a reflection of different cultural belief systems. Value is added to the search for solutions throughout each major cultural belief system. It is important to build a sustainable values-based world community so that we are able to maintain respect for the world’s different cultural traditions. Also, it is important because we want to try and make an effort in bringing the leaders of these different cultures together. We want to do this because they often have so much in common it helps them bring out the best elements within their cultures to help solve problems and build a world community.
I think that it is imperative is to make connections and build relationships with people out of your origin. If we don’t we will continue to live in an isolated world where we have a narrow point of views on conflicts and resolutions. With most cities and towns being populated with immigrants and different ethnic traditions makes it quite easy to network and build relationships. The Internet is a powerful tool. It allows you to have a wide range of opportunities to connect with people and discuss different issues. It's important to build these networks to help those involved have a better understanding of the similarities and differences while searching for common solutions for issues everyone faces.
Lastly, it is important to understand the ways in which people and countries of the world are interconnected and inter-dependent. You have to understand how your life is inter-connected with people from all around the world. For example, people need to know how the environment affects them where they live, and how they live environmentally affects the environment in other parts of the world. What many people don’t understand is that “human rights violations in foreign countries affect their own human rights, growing income inequalities across the world affect the quality of their lives, the global tide of immigration affects what goes on in their countries.”
Role As Responsible Global Citizen
A responsible global citizen has moral, ethical, political, and economic responsibilities.
One of the many responsibilities is not only being able to understand your own perspective but also the perspectives of others on global issues. At some point, all global issue are going to have to deal with ethnic, social, political, and economic perspectives attached to it. It is imperative that people understand the different views and promote problem-solving among the different perspectives so that all people will be in agreement, and not ambushed with solutions. Also, taking a particular side is not something a responsible citizen should do. Instead, he or she should try to be an advocate and search for ways to bring all sides together.
